Sydney Opera House bans King Khan and BBQ. WTF?

The main reason I didn't opt-in for the recent Lou Reed and Laurie Anderson-curated Vivid Festival shows by King Khan & BBQ and Boris at the Sydney Opera House was the venue. Low art does not belong in gilded cages run by high-brow turds, so why does this not surprise?

KING KHAN & BBQ OZ INVASION!

The almighty King Khan returns to Australia in June with his partner in crime (and grime), BBQ, in tow. Hand picked by Lou Reed and Laurie Anderson to perform at this years VIVID festival in Sydney, The King Khan and BBQ Show will also make one special stop off at The Corner Hotel in Melbourne.

A performance by The King Khan and BBQ Show is an awesomely surreal experience; a stunning music machine, playing incredible original hits that never end. Orgiastic, anarchic, hypnotic and personal. Blowjobs and blood, pick-ups and puke, dancing and laughing.

So KK and BBQ tickets a "SELLING FAST!" which means, if you ain't got yo ticket yet- you best be headed to THE CORNER site and throwdown the $$. I didn't go to KK and The Shrines because King Khan without BBQ is something i don't wish to experience. They are peanut butter and jam. Oh and to you people that haven't got tickets yet, Royal Headache and Woollen Kits are supporting..!

PBS is bringing them out so to say thanks- flip the dial to 106.7FM or hit http://www.pbsfm.org.au/ to scope out some good tunes!

Free King Khan (and BBQ)!!!

Canadian trash garage-soul genius King Khan is due in Australia next month to play the Falls Festival and a handful of dates but the news that he and partner-in-grime BBQ have been arrested on tour in the US and charged with drug possession is one bit of info right out the box. Thanks to Kopper from Garagepunk.com for the heads-up and guess you won't be seeing the pair Waddlin' Around in St Louis this weekend.

I guess that King Khan will be out of stir and a semi free man by the time the Aussie shows roll around but since he is dark-complexioned, is fond of women's wigs and was in a lock-up in a place called Christian County, Kentucky, we can't be 100 percent sure. A frequently updated blog on the subject is here.

King Khan & BBQ

This review of a show by The King Khan and BBQ Show last weekend makes me wish I was there. Here's some YouTubeage of their song "Waddlin' Around" to tide us all over:

BBQ update

My, my, if I'd got to the bottom of that bag of hickory chunks a bit quicker- like, by sometime in 1991- I could have been 55c better off. Oh well, no point crying over spilt marinade. Here's some recent pork:

And some more recent ribs- beef asado ribs:

Trimmed, with all the bones removed except one- this is what I threw away:

They then got marinated and rolled before cooking:

Sorry about the blur in that last shot, I was hungry, and couldn't be arsed taking another one.

You won't be seeing me on TV

A couple of months back I heard that the Lifestyle Channel were holding auditions to find hosts for a new program about barbecuing.
I wasn't going to bother (honest!) but on the day we happened to go past the area where they were set up, outside the Palais in St. Kilda. It looked kinda interesting, but still I balked at it.
Then an hour or two later a friend who did audition rang and explained the set up. You had to cook a sausage & an egg while talking to the cameras. That was all. AND you got a goodie bag...I was swayed by the thought of a new set of tongs, so went and signed up.
Steve Lucas from X, resplendent in a red tartan suit, and with a raging hangover from the Ian Rilen benefit show the night before, had decided to have a crack too. I'd love to see that tape.
I won't go into details, but will just say that when the producer guy said "We'll call you", I thought I was in.
Sadly, it was not to be. Jamie Oliver and Neil Perry can rest easy.
But the friend who sold me on the idea apparently got a look in. Her name is Janet A. McLeod and she is a very funny lady. If you have cable, and have nothing better to do than watch TV on a Saturday night, the program is called the Great BBQ Challenge, and is on at 7.30pm tomorrow, 2 December.
I'll sign off with a pic of some real BBQ. Here's one I made earlier, as they say. That's Underwater Jesus admiring some pork ribs.
