Album of the week- Woman: "Woman".

An odd one, this, but a good one.

WOMAN are a four piece based out of New York, who have been knocking around for a while. Somehow, they ended up on the mighty Spanish label, BANG! Records, for their debut album. And somehow, a copy ended up in Melbourne, with me.
Maybe that's not so odd really. The dirty rock riffs, huge rhythms and continent-sized slabs of guitar screech are very Melbourne, in a way. This would sound right at home on a local label like Spooky.
Fuck knows what they are on about. "When The Wheel's Red" pushes a lot of dials into the red, that's for sure. It ends with a jagged, wailing instrumental called "Icy Drone"
I'm sure I'm not the only person in town who'd pay good money to see these guys tearing up the Tote on a bill with, say, Sailors & Swine and the Stabs. Make it happen, someone.

A month off

So, I took a month off from this, and a few other things, for various reasons. But I'm back, and as of next week will have some shit hot new portable wi-fi tools to play with, so may end up posting even more.

Nothing Grows In Texas

Rumours are afoot that the Sacred Cowboys may be playing out live in Australia again in the near future. The last visitation was Victoria dates only and hopes are high they'll make it further afield. 

"Cold Harvest" - an updated collection of their best stuff with the odd new recording thrown in - is out on Spanish label Bang! and well worth hunting down.

Bang! Records- Butcher Shop reissue

Saw this note over on the I-94 Bar

Spain's Bang! Records are doing a re-issue of the back catalogue of Tex Perkins' noise terrorists the Butcher Shop and need your help. On the 1990 Normal pressing of the "Pump Action" CD, there was a bonus track called "Deep Throat". Neither Bang! or Tex can come up with a copy. if you can help out with a burned copy of the song, drop Juan a line here. You'll make a mad Spaniard and Mr Perkins very happy.

which triggered a vague memory of being given a cassette of Butcher Shop demos by Lachlan MacLeod back in 1989 or so. I dug it out last night- watch this space.
